What does the visit consist of?
This visit consists of a two-hour guided tour of the Realejo district. The itinerary is designed to walk quietly away from the crowds in a small group. If you come to Granada with your dog, now you have the opportunity to get to know the old Sephardic neighborhood in Granada, el Realejo, with your best friend. This area witnessed the expulsion of the Jews from Granada and still holds its wonderful and rich heritage.
What do we propose on this visit?
During the visit hope you get to know the old Jewish quarter of Granada, known as «Garnata al-Yahud» during the Arab period, its ancient name is due to the important Sephardic community which settled here. Its role was essential in the foundation of the Kingdom of Granada. Also in the cultural development that lasts until today in our city. Therefore, we want to show you the life and the environment in which some Sephardic personalities who made history in Granada.
Furthermore, you will get to know the current neighborhood in depth. Its most special places, the gastronomy and a palpable Jewish cultural heritage. Today it is known as the Realejo quarter, this is because the Catholic Kings repopulated the place with tenants who were close to the crown due to the expulsion of the Jews at the end of the 15th century..
What will you visit?
During the tour, you will learn more about Ibn Tibon, a Jewish poet and translator from 11th century. We will wander through the streets of Realejo, passing go into the Colina del Mauror to reach the Lavadero del Sol (with one of the best views of the city), the Church of San Cecilio and the Plaza del Cristo de los Favores. Finally, we will also get to know the Arab and Christian legacy that can be seen in the Church of Santo Domingo and the Castle of Bibataubín.
